A Low-Key Bachelorette in Wilmington, NC: Spas, Gardens and Shopping
Not every bride wants a party bike. If yours would rather have a massage and a long lunch, Wilmington is good at that too. We've written this as a single day, but it stretches across a weekend easily.
Morning: the spa
Book early, especially if you need everyone in at the same time.

Manicures and head-to-toe treatments. Worth it if the bride wants her wedding nails done while everyone is together.
Afternoon: gardens, shopping, and a class
Airlie Gardens is the centerpiece. It dates to 1901 and has walking trails, sculptures, a butterfly house, and the 468-year-old Airlie Oak. For something quieter, the New Hanover County Arboretum in Midtown is free to visit and a nice spot for a picnic.
The Forum is the easiest place to shop as a group, with boutiques, sidewalk bistros, and cafés in one place. Look around Très Bleu Boutique, book mani-pedis at Luxe Nails, and stop for tea at Tama Café.
If you want one planned activity, take the pizza-making class at Cugino Forno. It costs less than $10 more than a pizza, you learn to toss the dough, and the ingredients are imported from Italy. You book by email and need at least five people, which most bachelorette parties have covered.
If it rains, or you want a story
Downtown has two good indoor detours. The Museum of the Bizarre is as strange as it sounds, with the Crystal Skull of Knowledge, the Fort Fisher Mermaid, and Houdini's Ouija board on display. The Bellamy Mansion and the Zebulon Latimer House both run guided tours of Wilmington's antebellum homes.
Finish somewhere quiet. Neapolitan Wine Bar in Carolina Beach has more than 500 wines and a backyard deck, and Crush & Grind switches from coffee to wine in the evening.
If you only book one thing in advance, make it the spa. Getting a whole group in at once takes the most planning.
