What to Pack for a Beach Bachelorette Weekend in Wilmington
Packing for a beach bachelorette is mostly packing for a beach trip, plus one outfit you'll want photographed and a little something for the bride. The only tricky part is local, so let's start there, before anybody packs the cooler.
A few house rules from the beach towns
Around Wilmington, the sand is a sober spot. Wrightsville Beach doesn't allow alcohol on the beach strand or any public property, and Carolina Beach keeps both alcohol and glass off its strand. Save the bubbly for the rental, a boat, or a bar with a view, and let the beach cooler be the hydration station.
Carolina Beach also has a tidy-up rule: anything left on the sand between sunset and sunrise counts as abandoned, with a fine of up to $40 a day. Whatever wanders down to the beach in the morning should wander back with you at night.
Parking is paid at both beaches from March 1 through October 31, and most lots run about $25 for the day. Carolina Beach even lets you pay by text. Carpooling saves a little money and a lot of circling.
The beach bag
Sunscreen, and then a little more
A bottle each for the weekend, plus a stick for noses and cheeks. Future-you, admiring the wedding photos, will be grateful.
A big refillable water bottle
The cooler stays alcohol-free on the sand anyway, so let water be the thing everyone reaches for between swims.
A towel each, plus a spare
Not every rental stocks beach towels, and somebody always forgets theirs. Bringing the spare makes you a quiet hero.
A crossbody bag for your phone
Phone, card, and keys stay with you instead of collecting sand, and the same little bag carries straight on to dinner, leaving both hands free for toasts.
A portable speaker and a charger
A good beach playlist is half the fun. Keep it at a friendly volume so the folks on the next towel can enjoy their afternoon too.
For the nights out
Shoes you can actually walk in
The Riverwalk downtown and the Carolina Beach boardwalk are both best explored on foot. Bring a pair that can keep up, and save the heels for a sit-down dinner.
A light layer
If a sunset cruise is on the plan, the breeze on the water picks up once the sun dips. A cardigan or a denim jacket earns its spot in the suitcase.
One matching thing, if you like
A color, a hat, the same pair of sunglasses. Just enough to look like a crew in the photos without committing to identical outfits.
For the bride
Leave a little room for one gift she'll keep long after the weekend. We gathered some ideas, including a few that have nothing to do with our shop.
Bachelorette gift ideas the bride will actually keep
Our list of gifts that last well past the honeymoon, from a hand-beaded bag to a handwritten note.
Pack light, check which beach you're heading to before the cooler gets loaded, and leave a corner of the suitcase for whatever treasures come home with you.
