6 Wilmington Bachelorette Ideas On (or Near) the Water

Wilmington has the Cape Fear River on one side and the Atlantic on the other, so it would be a shame to plan a bachelorette here and stay on land the whole time. We split these into two lists: things where someone else does the work, and things where you do.

Low effort: let someone else drive

These work for any group size and any energy level, including the morning after.

    Wheels, not water, but it rolls along the waterfront and it's the bachelorette activity this town is known for. Your group pedals a party bike through historic downtown for about two hours with music on. Reservations required; tours meet at 106 N 2nd Street.

More effort: paddle it yourselves

For a group that would rather work for its sunset drink. The first one is a real paddle; the other two are easy.

  • Kayak to Masonboro IslandBetween Wrightsville and Carolina Beach

    Masonboro Island Reserve is an undeveloped barrier island, about eight miles long, that you can only reach by boat. The kayak over takes 25 to 30 minutes, and on the other side there's an empty beach for swimming and a picnic. Bring everything you'll want, because there's nothing to buy out there.

    Paddleboard rentals and lessons on the calmer sound side of Wrightsville Beach. A good first hour of a beach day, even for people who have never stood on a board.

  • Paddle boats at Greenfield LakeGreenfield Lake, near downtown

    Rent two- or four-person paddleboats, kayaks, or canoes and drift under 100-year-old cypress trees hung with Spanish moss. American alligators live in the lake, so keep your hands in the boat.

If you can only fit one of these in, book a sunset cruise. It works for everyone, including anyone who is skipping the drinks.
